I had a really good conversation with Jose Camacho and Diego Perez at the Camp House today. Tomorrow is Diego’s last day as he departs back to Colorado in the early afternoon. He lost over 20 pounds in the 5 weeks he was here participating in the first RGBA camp life experience, he was down from 280lbs to 260lbs. Jose said that he felt really good about the entire experience and that sparring three times per week really brought a lot of perspective for him. They were really excited to see Jose Ramirez earlier in the week and that he was scheduled to work out again today at 2pm. Four time division world champion Mikey Garcia was also scheduled to stop by the gym and workout with the group. The group was split today, only half of the fighters were scheduled to train and spar at noon the other half, Angel Avila, Agustin Vasquez, Seth Vasquez and others were scheduled for a 2pm workout shift.
Several professional fighters were in the gym today. Josesito Lopez was working out, the Aguirre brothers were working out, Efren and Erik. The Rodriguez brothers from Indio, Manny (Baby) and Ruben were in the gym. Bantamweight Arturo Cardenas was in a sauna suit trying to burn off the last 7 pounds before his fight in Stockton on Saturday. The Navarro brothers, David and Stephen were in the gym working out and preparing for their future commitments. All hands were on board, Robert, Pita, Chepe, Art and the Big G were all present to assist fighters in their training and organize sparring appropriately. I needed to rush back home to take care of some responsibilities but things are all steam ahead at Robert Garcia’s Boxing Academy in Riverside, Ca. Alexis Espino fights this Saturday on the undercard of Jojo Diaz versus Devin Haney, where Pita Garcia will assist him in the corner while Robert will be in Stockton assisting, Gabriel Muratalla, Arturo Cardenas and Felix Soriano on a Toscano Promotions event.
